     The quote I chose for this second Great American Quotes Post is Abraham Lincoln's "My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth." President Abraham Lincoln gave this quote during the course of the American Civil war, where the image America had before was tarnished from the conflict within the United States that was fought mostly for whether a certain group of Americans deserved freedom or not. I believe that President Lincoln is trying to tell his audience of the American people that he has a vision and hope that this country will once again be a beacon of freedom for groups who are escaping the beliefs, rules, or prejudices of their country to seek a safe haven.       Callissa peeked around the corner, exhaling a sigh of relief as another corridor lay empty before her. Hope fluttered in her heart knowing that soon she would find the solace of the open skies.      "Where do you think you're heading off to?" a familiar voice from a shadowy enclave asked.        Everything is possible     It was a strange transition from leaving the crowded mall for a bite to eat to go straight to finding a nearby park for a nature walk. I had decided to break the monotony in my day to day routine and change things up. I was unsure about the whole experience because trying new things on my own wasn't something I was used to. I was merely an anxious, homebody teenager  placed in a world just beyond the suburbs that was vastly different from the blinding jungle of pavement and streetlights I was familiarized with.       I had to straighten out three different times in the dusty parking lot, something I still was struggling with even though I had been driving this Nissan for one month. I double checked that I had everything; beach bum sunscreen, Arrowhead plastic water bottle, nature valley granola bar, cell phone.       The quote I chose for this post is "Beauty is a form of genius - is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is of the great facts in the world like sunlight, or springtime, or the reflection in dark water of that silver shell we call the moon." From Oscar Wilde. Oscar Wilde was an Irish poet, playwright who lived through the latter half of the 19th century. The quote is taken from the novel The picture of Dorian Gray.  It was published in 1890 and centered around a story of a man who sells his soul in the pursuit of fulfillment through beauty.       This quote is fitting for a novel that focuses on the idea of beauty and how it exceeds many other forms of intellect. I interpret this quote as Wilde trying to convey that beauty appreciation is more valued and smarter because it doesn't need any sort of explanation to show why it is beautiful.
